Week 3: End of Prototyping (Yay!)
In week 3, we're finally done with the prototyping phase for this project, which means next week we hit production! Here's some updates from this past week:
Made a custom HDRI with Adobe XD to create a stylized mood in the Lighting

Basic spikes prototype
We are still working on the score system, but here's a prototype for our spike hazard. When the player hits the spikes, they some lose control of their car for a short duration and will lose some score!
Note: we now support 4 players!
New core mechanic: boosting
We were wondering how we could add more fun to our game, so we came up with a dash-like boost mechanic for our bumper cars. Before adding the boost mechanic the player did not have as much influence on the bumping, now they have access to a powerful boost with a short cooldown. Here's the boost in action!

The final prototype
For the final prototype we made sure each player has a unique colour to make it easier to track which car you control, and we added some score. There's also a game timer and a very simple UI.
And Of Course Design documents
Most of our week was spent completing various design documents so that we prevent as many problems as possible when going into production. Documenting all decisions carefully ensures there's clear communication in the team.
The Game Design Document
After spending a lot of time writing and discussing, we finally have it done! The Game Design Document (GDD) documents everything about our game. All mechanics, UI-screen, objects, ...
Here's an example of how we described our bumper car collisions flow.

Finished creating the Art Bible
The Art Bible is finally done, here are some of my favourite pages :D
Tech doc
We also finished the tech doc, detailing all technical details for our team. This includes folder structure, software we use, source, control, code guidelines, ...
See you next week, when we'll talk about the results of our first week of production!
